Position Purpose & Summary
Responsible for applying general scientific understanding of quality assurance and feed safety technology and processes at location in the following areas of focus : testing and auditing process documentation, data collection and analysis, and facilitating knowledge transfer.
Provides solutions to less complex food safety and / or quality issues / concerns the location.
1. PERFORM PREVENTION ACTIVITIES AND ISSUE RESOLUTION (30%)
Conducts routine to difficult sampling, testing and auditing of products / ingredients / suppliers to ensure compliance to government, customer and Cargill standards on feed safety and quality (e.
g., carcass mapping, moisture levels, supplier audits, corporate food safety audits, labeling).
Uses pre-defined criteria to inspect plant operations environment and equipment to ensure compliance with quality and feed safety standards.
Support Customer complaint investigation.
Monitor plant operations for compliance to behavioral standards related to feed safety and quality. Escalate issues of non-
compliance to more senior team members.
Assists FSQR Manager with the design and execution of routine laboratory trials and troubleshooting activities, which will provide knowledge and add value to Cargill and our Customers / Suppliers products, processes and equipment.
Reports any issues of non-compliance or non-conformance to food safety / quality standards with the appropriate level of urgency.
2. DEVELOP, IMPLEMENT AND ASSESS PROCESS / SYSTEMS (20%)
Assists more senior team members with assessment of quality assurance systems, equipment and parameters (e.g., calibration, oversight of testing performed, procedures, instrumentation).
Assists FSQR Manager with routine to complex maintenance and calibration on laboratory / testing equipment and independently performs general upkeep of laboratory / testing areas.
Maintains pre-defined feed safety and quality programs and protocols within one or more location. Makes recommendations for continuous improvement.
With some oversight, manages inventory control and purchasing of laboratory / testing supplies to assure all items required for testing and are available.
3. COLLECT AND ANALYZE DATA, DOCUMENT RESULTS (20%)
With frequent supervision documents testing results and conducts routine analysis. Identifies possible trends and provides input to more senior team members on next steps to address trends.
Documents and shares best practices across team and occasionally, with a cross-functional audience.
Document / log audit, customer complaint and test data / results accurately and appropriately in the correct Information Management Systems.
Assists FSQR Manager with internal presentations related to the locations quality and food safety policies, practices, procedures and results / measures.
4. SHAPE FOOD SAFETY, QUALITY AND REGULATORY CULTURE / REPUTATION (15%)
Assists in the design and delivery of training materials for internal FSQR specialists and operations employees at various levels in the organization related to food / feed safety and quality issues, practices and risks.
Promotes the development of food safety mentality / culture.
With guidance from more senior team members, improves professional competency related to feed safety and / or quality specialty area.
Transfer knowledge to cross-functional teams (operations, FSQR, Technology, RMS) across location.
5. RESOURCE MANAGEMENT OF THE LOCATION (15%)
May supervise small team of Food Safety Quality Technicians
Education, Experience, Skills
Bachelor’s Degree in Science, Food Science, Biological Sciences, quality
Assurance or related fields, 3-5 years of experience.
Demonstrated process control management skills and an ability to supervise small team members
Experince in Quality Assurance and Control department
Understanding of statistical process control programs Is preferred
Operations experience preferred.
