Responsible for the performance, availability, and integrity of the various computer databases used by the company. He is responsible to continually monitor, test and tune the databases to maintain the highest level of service.

KEY AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITIES
Regularly monitors the database performance and calculates optimum values for production database parameters.
Maintains the DR databases in such a manner as to achieve the Company DR Recovery Time Objectives (RTO) and requirements.
Responsible for the creation and maintenance development, testing and staging databases.
Implements improvements and upgrades to the database in a controlled manner as to ensure the continued availability and integrity of the database.
Generates and analyzes reports indicating database activity to highlight potential performance problems, security violations, and other problems needing attention
Installs and monitors the performance of mechanisms to maintain and enhance the integrity and availability of the data contained in shared production databases
Maintains, in a safe place, an inventory of the original installation disks, CDs, and other data storage media for licensed software used in the Administrator's database related activities
Monitors developments in the database technology and management areas so as to be able to make suggestions for the improvement of database activities.
Communicate clear and specific performance expectations and measures of success to subordinates; inclusive of explaining business unit goals and results, and how their contributions made a difference.
Provide candid performance feedback to subordinates and peers (as applicable)
Conduct formal reviews to appraise performance, plan career and professional development, and discuss compensation as per the guidelines and practices of the Company.
Review project requests describing database user needs to estimate time and cost required to accomplish project.
Review applications developed by programmers and analysts to ensure applications make efficient and safe SQL calls to the databases.
Select and enter codes to maintain and create production database according to established procedures.
Test programs or databases, correct errors and make necessary modifications.
Recommend, schedule, plan, and supervise the installation and testing of new products and improvements such as the installation of new databases.
Develop methods for integrating different products so they work properly together, such as customizing commercial databases to fit specific needs.
Identify and evaluate industry trends in database systems to serve as a source of information and advice for upper management.
Develop the data model describing key data elements and how they are to be used
Develop standards and guidelines to guide the use, inclusive of acquisition of software and to protect vulnerable information.
Notifies the Manager IT Operations and Manager, IT Security Department about risks that may be encountered when shared production databases are used in new and different ways.
Identifies and proposes database management system access control mechanisms that The company could use to control who gains access to shared production databases, and what they do once they have gained such access these mechanisms include schemas or views, which allow users to see only the information they are authorized to access
Follows information security policies, guidelines, procedures, and other requirements when assigning and updating the privileges of users in shared databases
Securely preserves all records indicating changes made to access control privileges to facilitate investigations, disciplinary actions, and prosecutions
Plan, coordinate and implement security measures to safeguard information in computer files against accidental or unauthorized damage, modification or disclosure.
Review procedures in database management system manuals for making changes to database.
Degree in Computer Science; with a minimum of 3 years working experience in database administration and support (preferably DB2, Oracle and Microsoft SQL).
Knowledge in database security will be an advantage.
Knowledge in AIX, Linux and Windows
Good communication, writing and organizing skills.
Experience in Banking or IT related sector would be an added advantage.
Able to effectively lead a team.
Good interpersonal & communications skill (both verbal and written) in English and Bahasa Malaysia
Ability to work independently.
Willing to work on odd hours.
